Be Careful What We Wish For!!

By Charles Strauch

I am a patriot, a passionate believer in American exceptionalism and an extraordinary beneficiary of everything that is great about our Country.
I am, by any measure, a conservative Republican - mightily discouraged by the gutless leadership of my Party.
I am not, by any measure, a member of any “establishment”.
I am as apoplectic as many Americans are about the DC leadership vacuum that treats We The People as servants of an out of touch Federal Government that:  --  confiscates our hard earned cash; saddles our grandchildren with a mountain of debt; apologizes to the rest of the world for the sacrifice of our military in behalf of freedom; and is clueless of the need for America’s leadership in making the world a safe place.
I believe that the majority of Americans now blame themselves for the consequences of their mistaken faith and false hope placed in the hands of an ill prepared, inexperienced, smooth talking, tone deaf politician who believes in his omnipotence and masquerades as a worldly leader.
I believe that most Americans will not allow their anger to drive them to repeat their mistake by electing a self-promoting, opportunistic, arrogant, egomaniac -  masquerading as an accomplished leader, who a) appeals to the worst of our emotions; b) not only believes in his omnipotence - insisting that he is ALWAYS the smartest, richest, best looking person in the room but is obsessed with continually reminding anyone who will listen to that myth; c) believes that EVERYONE with whom he disagrees is a “loser” and is obsessed with continually reminding anyone who will listen to that myth; d) is a master puppeteer revered by the puppets in a submissive conservative and liberal talk radio/TV news media incapable of anything other than endless, insufferable, infatuated babble.
I believe that the now silent majority of Americans understand that vision, courage, grace, dignity, humility and – above all, a deeply held level of respect for all of those served - no matter how misguided, are the time worn, proven qualities of leadership required in our next President.
I believe I speak the truth in behalf of most voters - not pollsters and the polled - when I exclaim:
Let’s be very careful what we wish for in our next President!!

Yes Sir, pure unadulterated truth. We can only hope the the silent majority wakes up. To think that this great country put this man in the White House twice gives me pause and great concern..

I expect the next election will be a choice between the lesser of two evils.I would prefer the choice between to wonderfuls.

Well articulated. However, I fear he will be nominated. At this point in the campaign, things have deteriorated into ignorant, small minded cat fights -- frankly-- Rubio and, sometimes Cruz, look no less trashy than does Trump. The sad truth is that I felt so good about the breadth and depth of our candidates until it devolved into a media driven Trumpfest. The press should starve him of oxygen, cover the other candidates and attempt to redirect them to focus on substance. After Super Tuesday, Hillary's machine will begin to dismantle the Republican Party piece by piece by making buffoons out of ALL republicans by carpet bombing every possible media outlet with commercials about what an awful, narcissistic, bigoted mysogynist Trump is. Trump will then become inextricably associated with the Right and we will lose any hope of a win.

Question from Europe: Where has The Grand Old Party gone?? (or gone wrong?)

Simple answer-- changing world and a political system that is removed and unresponsive to its constituents. I do believe that people are more engaged now. I hope it is a wake up call. We need to get more people changing things at the State and local levels.
