A Plea For Sanity - Sequel

The response to the previous post on the virus pandemic has been enlightening.  Mostly in agreement with the premise of the published article but it also provoked revealing comments coming from the liberal side confirming the obvious. Liberal ideological opinion - not science based fact, is striking fear in the hearts and minds of millions of lemmings who believe that only government can save us from sickness and death. Conservative ideological opinion, not science based fact, is driving those who believe that we are capable of protecting ourselves from sickness and death to strive mightily to return ASAP to normality. This difference is readily evident because expert opinions supporting both sides of the argument are literally all over the map. Note this example coming from The Netherlands - "Government Shreds Mandatory Mask Narrative - Says It Can't Prove Masks Work"

Here is another of many going viral on the Web:

One can describe this difference between right and left by framing the path forward with this virus in question form:   Should we all live under government control including arbitrary government edicts that tramp on our Constitutional granted freedoms  - such as those edicts that declare that some Americans are actually "non-essential"? (you can't make this up).  Or ,should those of us who want to live free of government control be allowed the opportunity to decide for ourselves how to live safely and  respectfully together - and when and where we work?

My only concern about this thing  - the left may be winning the argument because their belief is driven by emotion i.e. the fear of death.  The only hope in arguing against the premise that every life is precious is to ask this question - why should 15 to 20 million healthy small business owners and employees, arbitrarily deemed by power hungry politicians to be "nonessential",  be required to plunge into financial ruin under the ideologically driven unproven premise of saving the lives of  a few hundred thousand mostly unhealthy citizens - less than .003 of the total population.   Particularly given that all rational folks agree - no matter what we do, an unpredictable number of people will die from this virus even after a vaccine is found and implemented.

Living under these government edicts (which again differ all over the world map),  based on what politicians want to believe, is a forerunner of how life will be lived under liberal leftist rule. "Rule" is the perfect word that describes government edicts which have not been issued under the rule of law. It is impossible to imagine how helpless and powerless the 'nonessential" 15+ million healthy Americans must feel as their workplaces are closed. Just as it is impossible for some of us to imagine how those who are protected by the security of working out of their homes'; those living in their elitist media, entertainment, and academia cocoons;  and those securely employed in large corporations can possibly defend the injustice done to those way less fortunate folks.

To be clear, the ideology that drives this stuff - no matter what we call it, is dictatorial.  It is the very kind of government that our founders hated and sacrificed their lives to escape. It is one more step toward allowing confiscation of the hard earned wealth of a few to provide "free" education, "free" health care, "free" housing for the poor. Of course, it is ludicrous to describe any of this as "free" but that is the politically correct term used by socialists to convince themselves that living under government rule will be trouble free. My several decades of experience in managing manufacturing and service businesses, where ordinary workers do the only really meaningful hard work, provides me with considerable hope. Ordinary hard working Americans, by their very nature, have adopted an inward faith in their ability to provide for themselves and their family. That keeps them going. They don't want a handout from the government - a concept that the liberal mind can't possibly fathom. Of course, there are the really poor down out folks who need a safety net. Contrary to  socialist opinion, there is not a measurable segment of permanently poor folks in America - the most generous nation in the history of mankind.

On a more positive note, in coming out of this pandemic, one might envision it as an experiment where there are states such as California or Oregon or Maine designated as zones where lemmings - willing to comply with government edicts that assure they can feel safe and get 'free' stuff. Then there would be states such as South Dakota, South Carolina and Alabama where its residents can live free of government intervention and control - distributing their income through a progressive tax system that rightfully taxes the rich at a greater rate and thru donations to the charity of their choice. Since this would involve massive voluntary relocation of the American population, it is unlikely to happen.  No matter,  the public reaction to this pandemic has brought home how hugely comforting it is to live in South Carolina with a whole bunch of visitors bringing their bikes (and money), driving here from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut to escape their State government edicts in order to enjoy living together safely, respectfully, with normality. Just imagine the enjoyment of a gourmet meal served with friends inside a crowded air conditioned restaurant oy your choice.  Where - OMG!! -  perish the thought - masks are not required.

Here's hoping that the underlying theme of this post will strengthen the resolve of those of us who cherish the very thought of freedom and dismiss outright the fear of death. Our resistance to edicts must  be heard by out of touch control freak politicians - frequently, resolutely and respectfully.
