This is a very informative set of data supporting the need for public school choice in our Country. It is also a great American story of success - a shining example of how one individual, Eva Moskowitz, has made an amazing difference at the Success Academy network of 47 NYC schools serving over 20,000 students - 98% of whom are black and Hispanic coming from families living below the poverty line in NYC.
But no surprise - the Ruling Class strikes again!! "Since 2019, when the most recent statutory limit on charters was reached, no new charters could be granted unless the state legislature voted to lift the cap, an issue that had been the focus of Success Academy’s advocacy. Expanding the number of high schools and middle schools was within the scope of their current charters, but additional elementary schools would require legislative change."
Harvard Business School, which produces case studies on some of the most extraordinary and disruptive businesses and organizations in the world, decided to make a case study of Success Academy. After months of research, HBS professors Dr. Robin Greenwood and Dr. Joshua Coval, along with a camera crew and a pair of researchers, spent two intensive days visiting five schools and observing more than 50 classrooms. They examined the SA school design, dug into their data, and interviewed parents, teachers, principals, and college counselors.
The result is a multimedia presentation that reveals both the passion for excellence and the commitment to improvement that drives SA. After teaching the case last fall, HBS has made this case study available for a limited time (waiving the usual access fee)Step 1: Please follow this link: https://courseware.hbs.edu/cases/success_academy/
