National Charter Schools - Update

The positive feedback from many Blog followers on the previous Charter Schools post has been quite heartening. I cannot emphasize enough that there is no public interest cause in our great Country that can make more of a difference for all K-12 students and their parents than support than public school choice. Vouchers paid to parents allowing their kids to attend a private school have not had any measureable impact on test results.  Continued growth of public harter schools is the only way out of the k-12 public school monopoly held by local public school boards and the teachers union in the large USA  metropolian K-12 urban cities. Political ideology is a factor in most of our major cities but should not be.

The progress of USA charter schools in the last 2 decades has been slow to materialize but has begun to achieve results that are nothing short of amazing. The pioneers in this effort need financial support – regardless of the amount of annual (key word) donation. It is extremely important that they have a long list of small donors that they can use to offset the huge effective local and national political and teacher union opposition to charter schools. No better example than the truly remarkable Eva Moskowitz – CEO of Success Academy Network in NYC, under constant opposition from the NY City education board swamp rats and teachers union. At one point in the history of Success Academy,  the teachers union convinced the janitors union to stop janitor service on the floors occupied by Success Academy in public schools. Again - political ideiology must not be a factor in denying low income parents in our major cities from selectiing a local charter school to provide a quality education for their children.

I urge you to consider suppporting the NYC Success Academy 48 school network – now # 2 in the USA with test scores!!! Mind you, 98% of the students are Black and Hispanic. Check out their site on the web!!

and donate  https://giving.successacademies.org/give/335023/#!/donation/checkout

And check out Eva’s story on the web – 1 individual can make a huge difference in the lives of others.

I also urge supporting  Austin Achieve in Austin, TX – started single handedly by Andy Greenawalt and John Armbruster, a childhood best friend of Andy’s son. John was a public school leader when Andy invited him to be CEO of the yet to be built Austin Acheive school. Within a remarkably short time, John, Andy, and Andy’s Austin TX wealthy friends opened their 1st school. Austin Achieve now has 3 schools – elementary, middle, high school with 90 % Hispanic students. Another amazing story – example of how 2 individuals - Andy and John, can make a huge difference in other peoples lives.

There are surely several charter schools in your neighborhood. Please do your homework on them to be sure of their successfull results in edcuating low income students and donate.

The USA spends more per student on K-12 public edcucation yet is at the bottom of the list of developed nations measured by test scores in language learning, science and math. I hope that you agree that public school choice can elevate the USA into the top tier of worldwide K-12 public school education.
