Grand Ol' Party Leadership

As a significant RNC donor, I have earned the right to offer constructive input to the Republican Party "powers that be" - whoever they may be. I strongly encourage the followers of this Blog to post your comments in support or against my opinion. More important, if you are a donor to the Republican Party at any level, please make your thoughts known directly to your contact person.

No matter what you may think of Vivek Ramaswamy's comments on the RNC leadership at the most recent Presidential debate, it is a fact that a large percentage of Republican voters agree with him. He is a refreshing change agent most welcome to our Party. It will not serve the Party well to dismiss his remarks. To be clear, my purpose here is to offer constructive input with the hope that it will encourage much needed change for the benefit of all Republicans. I have enjoyed my relationship with the RNC leaders who always have been willing to listen to input from concerned Party donors such as myself. This post should NOT be viewed as a complaint coming from a disgruntled donor. I have great respect for the RNC staff - in the trenches everyday focused on the very important election integrity ground game in swing states. We all can only hope that this initiative will make a difference, as promised, in the 2024 election.  But, we also should expect a lot more.

I and too many other Republicans view the RNC is an overly bureaucratic lifeless enterprise controlled by the old guard Republican ruling class who are focused on rules and legalese and not active, crisp  everyday communication with the base. The term “lifeless” may be overstated, particularly in the opinion of the wealthy donors who have the time and money to attend the periodic Ritz Carlton "retreats" where they can engage with the leaders and listen firsthand to how the very important election integrity ground game is being organized in the swing states. But the term "lifeless" is purposely used here to draw attention to the plain fact that too many ordinary hard-working Republicans see their Party leaders as uninspiring and disconnected with the hearts and minds of We the People. This widely held view can be confirmed by checking out the RNC's own bland words published on their web site. Nice sounding platitudes such as "The principles of the Republican Party recognize the God given liberties while promoting opportunity for every American." But, in fact, national polling data confirms that the issues of greatest concern to Republican and Independent voters in the 2024 election will be:  combating inflation by reducing the national debt; securing our southern border; securing the USA's energy independence; promoting public school choice; election integrity. Add to this list the fact that the majority of Americans view the Democrats war on fossil fuels and climate change initiatives as hugely detrimental to the interests of the working class. There is no meaningful mention of any of these issues on the RNC web site.

It is indeed revealing to go to RNC.org and view the "Party Platform" dated 2016 - written 7 years ago, stated in excruciating legal detail that no one could possibly take the time to understand and read. This defies the very norms of strong leadership which include the ability of leaders to state in crisp, bullet point format inspiring words of the mission of the enterprise in terms that resonate with ordinary folks. Strong leaders are change agents - constantly challenging the status quo. For those donors who believe that the Grand Ol' Party is alive and well, check out this article:

I offer the above comments with respect for the RNC leaders who I believe are trying in their own way to meet the needs of all Republicans. Granted that I do not have direct access to what is actually happening within the RNC. I am only expressing my opinion which I know is supported by all of my friends and family and confirmed almost every day based on what we read, hear and see on internet podcasts and TV news and talk shows.

Comment sent via email: I agree with you that most Republicans agree with Ramaswamy‘s comments on every debate, and on any other interview that I’ve heard him. I think he is refreshing, and I think that he digs deeper then when most of us are comfortable with. I can only hope that he has planted seeds that will grow in the future and I hope he stays involved in this fight for America.

Reading Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, it is it is noteworthy that they both feared what we now know as 'the swamp'. Franklin proposed that elected representatives should never receive compensation for their service. In fact, Jefferson and all the first number of Presidents not only received no salary but were obliged to pay all of the expenses of operating the White House. They understood that the vast sums of money that would eventually flow into Washington posed an existential threat to our Nation. And here we are. It is now nearly impossible to discern one brand of politician from another. Sure, there are outliers at both extremes, but the middle is truly the Uniparty. These people are voted into office, and the junior ones soon see how the game works. Stay in that $174K job and, presto, in 20 years he or she is worth $20 Million. Vivek is seeing things with clear eyes. He is youthful and needs to polish his remarks and learn some timing, but in the end he is right. Any federal department operating without constitutional foundation must be closed. The massive unemployment that will cause is going to hurt. Many of those federal employees would never survive in the corporate or small business world. They simply would fail out. The predicament in which we find ourselves cannot be, will not be, solved without a lot of pain and suffering. I fear no politician will have the guts to tell that to the people.
